The State Of California

The State of California is one of the largest states of the United States, when considering the population. It is located between Oregon, Nevada and Arizona. The southern part is bordered by Mexico. The largest cities are San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Jose. The state of California has 456 cities and 22 towns. The state is divided into 58 counties and the climate is diverse. It was first colonized by the Spanish Empire, then it became part of Mexico and after the Mexican-American war, it was annexed by the United State as the thirty first state in 1850.

In California you can see a variety of climates. The West has sandy beaches from the Pacific Ocean and the east snowy mountains from Sierra Nevada. Central California is one of the most productive areas regarding agriculture. The state is also home of many national parks (Yosemite National Park) and reservations that contain the largest living trees: the sequoia. They can grow up to the age of 4700 years and they grow in the White Mountains. While Central Valley is California's agricultural center, San Francisco is know for its supply of gold and Los Angeles became a financial center with the entertainment industry.

The state is also known for the computer and petroleum industry. The sate has one of the largest economies in the world. California has dry summers and rainy winters. The climate is different across the state. The deserts have hot summers and mild winters while the east side of the state has moderate heat in summer and snow in the winter. The highest temperature was recorder in Death Valley. The Sacramento River and The San Joaquin River are crossing California through San Francisco Bay and they flow to the Pacific Ocean.

California has a population of about 37.000.000 inhabitants and it is the most populated state. By 2025, the population will increase to 50.000.000 people. More then 12% of the United States citizens live in California and its population is larger than most countries. Only 34 countries have more than 37 million citizens. The city of Los Angeles is the largest city in this state and the second largest in the United States. More than 60% of the population is formed of White Americans and about 35% of Hispanics. While the official language is English and more than 60% of the population speaks it as primary language, local governments are printing official documents in other languages, mostly Spanish. The sate is formed mostly out of Roman Catholics, but it also has the largest Jewish community for the U.S. and a large American Muslim population. It is home to many different religions including Buddhism and Protestant, but some people don't commit to any kind of religious cult. California state law is based on the English common law and it accepts the capital punishment.

The most profitable industry is agriculture, but the computer and entertainment industry are rising fast. California has the largest gross state product in the country: $1.62 trillion. In 2005, the personal income was about $48.000, but this figure varies in different regions of the state.
