San Diego Mobile Homes

San Diego County with its 70 miles of beaches and world famous beaches and zoos are great for mobile homes. There are over 100 San Diego mobile homes of sizes and prices. Most of these are primarily located in North County.  Some of the San Diego mobile home communities are age restricted communities that cater only to people above 55 years of age.

Contrary to popular expectation, mobile homes are not really mobile. The term San Diego mobile home refers to a home built entirely in a protected environment under a federal code set by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The San Diego mobile homes are prefabricated homes that are built in factories and then transported to a common site for installation. The mobile homes are usually less expensive per square foot than site-built homes, and are often associated with rural areas and high-density developments.

There are two major forms for San Diego mobile homes: the single-wide home and the double-wide home. Single-wide mobile homes are sixteen feet or less in width and can be towed to their site as a single unit. Double-wide mobile homes are usually twenty feet or more wide and are towed to their site in two separate units, which are then joined together. Some of the San Diego mobile home trailer parks also have triple wide homes, but these are not common.

Groups of San Diego mobile homes are usually placed in one location, often a rented lot. As the homes are made of pre-fabricated boards they can be moved easily in times of emergency. However, at the time of installation of the San Diego mobile homes, are fitted strong trailer frames, axles, wheels and tow-hitches.

In its early days, the design of the San Diego mobile homes was inspired by travel trailers. The units were designed for mobility. However, beginning the 1950s, the San Diego mobile began to be marketed as an inexpensive form of housing designed to be set up and left in a location for long periods of time, or even permanently installed.

The rates for the San Diego mobiles homes differ based on their location. On an average, a 55 plus San Diego mobile home can cost any where from $75,000-$200,000 for a home on leased land or $150,000 to over $300,000 for a mobile home where every individual owns the land on which his or her home is located.

San Diego mobile trailer parks also require mobile home owners to pay a maintenance fee of around $75 to $200 a month depending on the amenities depending on the amenities provided.
