Historically Exclusive Real Estate In La Jolla

Real Estate in La Jolla is conveniently located only 20 minutes north of downtown San Diego, but a world away. Of all the beach properties in San Diego County, the properties in La Jolla are the most upscale and affluent. There are homes in La Jolla that sell for well into the millions, and they are all unique and exclusive. Many people have their homes custom made, and keep their lawns and gardens impeccably landscaped. The people of La Jolla are friendly, though; probably because they are happy to live such a blessed life.

Properties in La Jolla shine so bright for good reason - the city is known as the "Jewel of San Diego," which is also a translation of the word in Spanish. There are also a lot of fine jewelry stores in La Jolla, many of them along Prospect Street, which attract people from home in La Jolla as well as visitors from around the country. The first thing that comes to mind after the mention of real estate in La Jolla, however, is the beaches. Black's Beach, La Jolla Cove, La Jolla Shores and Windansea Beach are just some of the beaches that offer surfing and other types of recreation.

The prominence of real estate in La Jolla dates back to 1850, when the community was incorporated into the city of San Diego. The first two people to settle in homes in La Jolla were the Sizer brothers, who bought 80-acre plots for $1.25 per acre. In today's market, properties in La Jolla of this size would be worth more than $1.25 million. The community has been kept clean, pristine and exclusive, but the hotels, shops and beaches make it a place where visitors can come and go as they please.
