Art In San Diego Bay

There are plenty of reasons for one to visit San Diego Bay: the beautiful beaches, museums, parks, historical sites, great views and a lot more. Those who love art will also be pleased to come to San Diego Bay.

One of the art projects that is specific to this area and by many considered unusual is The Urban Trees project. Initiated in the fall of 2003, it had 3 editions where very creative sculptures have been displayed. The tree theme artworks made for each iteration of the project are exhibited along the San Diego waterfront Embarcadero for a year. The artists use materials as original as possible, such as steel, glass, wood and canvas, tiles, copper. They all make full use of their imagination when choosing the design, the symbols to be included in their art and the idea they want to suggest. Both national and international attention focus on this annual San Diego Bay event.

The Port District of San Diego makes art and culture their top priorities. The Port's Public Art Program is meant to ensure that the quality and identity of the region are maintained and invested in.

The goals that drive the Public Art Program in San Diego Bay would be: stimulating artistic sense and free expression through art, promoting community partnership by collaborating in art projects, cultivating civic pride and getting public attention on social issues.

One can find artworks in many public spaces along the shore of San Diego Bay. They all honor cultural diversity, the importance of military force and the beauty of the surroundings.

With the help of artists several spaces have been embellished and are now pleasing both residents and tourists. San Diego Bay has several of their marks, thus many of its improvements are not just practical but aesthetic too.
